It is impossible to imagine Estonia apart from the sea and the Estonian coast line lasts for about 2000 miles. Estonia has 1500 islands, most of them are small, but these two – Saaremaa and Muhu - are the largest with their endless juniper fields, rustic windmills, old castles, stone fences, and the largest meteorite crater. Saaremaa in translation is ‘island land’ and it means this is the Estonian island.

The history here is very diverse. The island people have always been stubborn and it is said that in Saaremaa old grudges die hard. Saaremaa is the only place in Estonia than can claim proper Viking history having been home to pirates of the Baltic sea for a long time.
